The client of this project brought a multi-faceted brief to NMA to accommodate his family including three children and a large home office from which he could operate his construction company. The site was large (10m x 50m) for the precinct and benefited from a double street frontage. The solution was to provide a separate pavilion above the rear garage to distinguish family life from work life. The original Federation house was completely renovated and stripped back to make way for the new 2-storey extension. A simple material palette of natural stone, aluminium composite cladding, rusted steel and cedar all contributes to a dichotomous conversation between old and new, coarse and smooth.
